The Real Bullies

Bully by name. Not by nature.

The Real Bullies aims to educate viewers about bully breed dogs as loving, emotionally intelligent and family-friendly dogs, not the "vicious monsters" they're falsely labelled as by hysterical media headlines. The Real Bullies is relevant to families and dog lovers alike and emphasises the importance of responsible pet ownership. The story also encourages families to consider adopting bullies in need and supporting hard-working local shelters.

As a Staffy owner and animal welfare advocate, this is more than just a classic "don't judge a book by its cover" tale. While volunteering for the AWLQ, I noticed that bullies often spent the longest time at the shelter compared to other breeds, being overlooked as viable family pets. To see them locked away and emotionally shut down like this was incredibly heartbreaking because they're highly sociable animals, and they crave human affection. I'm eager to introduce The Real Bullies to your readers, showing that with love, support, and training, bully dogs make the most remarkable companions.

Finally, I will share some research from the Marin Human Society and the American Temperament Test Society (ATTS):

  • Bully dogs were generally less aggressive than many other stereotypically "friendly" breeds when faced with confrontational situations.

  • In January 2023, an ATTS study showed that 87.6% of American pit bull terriers passed a temperament test, compared to 85.9% of golden retrievers.
